Sundowns Vs Barcelona

The day that we were all waiting for arrived on Wednesday and everyone was just so excited about it. It reminded me of the 1st game we had in 2007 of FC Barcelona VS Mamelodi Sundowns at the Loftus stadium on the 20th of June. Even though the final score was 2-1, South Africa actually hoped that the outcome to Wednesday’s game would’ve been different.

As time came closer for the kickoff, the crowd was energized and waiting for the game to start.  The Kick off was at 17H30 and with three minutes into the game, O. Dembele scored the 1st goal of the game putting Barcelona in the lead and had South African’s a bit emotional, but they kept their hope alive.

A few minutes into the game, L. Suarez scored a second goal, which put FC Barcelona in the lead with 2-0. At that moment, South African’s lost it and started complaining about their home team. Here are some few tweets:

Just as we were heading for the half time, one of the fans invaded the pitch.  I guess for a few seconds of fame, he had his moment on the field but was then removed and landed in the holding cells… so they say.

First half ended with FC Barcelona 2-0 Mamelodi Sundowns.

As second half began, Barcelona made the following substitutions:

  1. A. Vidal replaced O. Dembele
  2. A. Gomes replaced A. Iniesta
  3. Coutinho replaced D. Suarez
  4. G. Pique replaced S. Busquets
  5. I.R. de Galarreta replaced Y. Mina
  6. J. Cillesen replaced M. ter Stegen
  7. J. Alba replaced L. Digne
  8. J. Cuenca replaced C. Alena
  9. P. Alcacer replaced L. Suarez
  10. Paulinho replaced I. Rikitic
  11. S. Roberto replaced N. Semedo

During the second half as FC Barcelona had a whole new team playing, they had a few attempts at scoring but Sundowns was in defense mode, and later on during the second half the following substitutions were made by Mamelodi Sundowns:

  1. M. Modisha replaced B. Soumahoro
  2. K. Mweene replaced D. Onyago

Right after those substitutions, A. Gomes scored Barca’s 3rd goal within sixty seven minutes into the game, making the score 3-0. At that point Mamelodi Sandowns fans were really disappointed and had already given up hope. A few free kicks were awarded even corner kicks, and attempts were made. Just when we all thought we wouldn’t see Messi play, the last substitute for Barcelona was made where L. Messi replaced I.R. de Galarreta. Then GOAL!!!! S. Vilakai scores in the 76th min getting the fans excited and happy, after that goal the team decided to make two more substitutes:

  1. O. Mnyisa replaced K. Billiat
  2. G. Sirino replaced H. Kekana

As the game drew closer to the end, more attempts to score were made by both teams and a few corner kicks were awarded at the 90th minute. More substitutes were made by Mamelodi Sandowns:

  1. J. Brockie replaced P. Tau
  2. G. Lebese replaced T. Zwane
  3. L. Mohumi replaced S. Mabunda
  4. T. Morena replaced A. Ngcongca

A few minutes after the substitutions the game came to an end and the score was FC Barcelona 3-1 Mamelodi Sundowns.

Victory goes to FC Barcelona. It looks like history has repeated itself, just like in 2007.
