The Rise of Online Education

To quote the man whose face is on our money,” Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” World changing innovations are every country’s dream but when education is expensive and unattainable, those dreams die with the financially starved youth. #FeesMustFall was the ghost from these dead dreams, however there is hope – online education. Recently there has been a rise of online institutions, both free and paid.

A simple “online course” Google enquiry will return a plethora of institutions that provide online education. As a matter of fact, some South African universities are offering free online courses. Some of these courses do provide you with a certificate at the end but most of them are just there to provide you with the need skill.

Acquiring skills is the main objective because what good is a piece of paper (certificate) when you forget most of the things you learned. If you feel like you lack a certain skill, join an online course, get the skill and improve your chances of being employed.

Here is a list of online institutions to get you started:

Khan Academy

EdX

Udemy

Coursera

Stanford Online
